We’re here to help you add some more tools to your tool belt with today’s handy How To: Add a Customer in Point of Sale.
Adding customer information to your Point of Sale system has many benefits. If you ever need to contact your customer regarding an order, or to track down payments, all of their contact information is readily available. But you can also keep track of what types of things each customer purchases, to send out emails when similar items go on sale. Or you can keep customer birthdays, and send out mailers with special birthday offers. By attaching a customer to every purchase, you can track who your best customers are, and give them special perks and privileges for shopping with you. There are tons are reasons to keep track of customer information, and only one rule: be consistent! Be consistent with how you enter that information (use the same format every time, so looking customers and information up later will be a breeze), and be consistent with when you enter information (every customer, every time!).
Here’s a quick how-to:
- Start on the Home screen.
- Select [CUSTOMERS], then [NEW CUSTOMER].
- [ENTER] all information you wish to track regarding this customer. Make sure you’ve at least covered the basics, Name, Phone Number, Email, and Address. There are a lot more options here – make sure to put in any information that would be helpful to look this customer up again in the future, and any information that is relevant for your business (i.e. customer rewards number, customer type, and charge account information.
- Choose [SAVE].
Now you can assign this customer to invoices, and keep track of their purchasing history and trends, contact the customer in various manners, and make sure you’re giving your customer the best service.
Now that you know how to create customers, you’ll want to make sure all of your sales associates are following through. The best way to ensure this is to turn on a feature called “Require Customer Name.” For the step-by-step on how to make sure this feature is turned on in your Point of Sale, check out another of our handy articles – Tips and Tricks: Require Customer Name on Sales in Point of Sale.
